Vampire · The Bloodsucker — Night's Aristocrat Living Immortal on the Blood of the Living

An undead that, dead yet unable to die, sustains immortality by drinking the blood of the living. With pale skin, fangs, and beguiling charisma, it shifts into bat, mist, or wolf. Weak to sunlight, silver, the cross, garlic, and the stake. Rooted in Eastern European folklore, its aristocratic form was established by Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Origin

Derived from the revenant-corpse traditions of Eastern European Slavic folklore. Vampire panic spread through 18th-century Europe, and Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897) perfected the elegant, aristocratic modern vampire image.
