Magic Swordsman

魔劍士 · Magic Swordsman — A rare dual expert who channels magic through the blade

The magic swordsman (魔劍士) is a rare class mastering both swordsmanship and magic. Channeling magic into swords for elemental attacks (flame sword, ice sword, lightning sword) or fighting with magical barriers, it combines the strengths of mages and warriors as a hybrid class. Requiring considerable skill in both, with extremely high learning difficulty, they often lean toward one side — 'enchanted swordsmen' favoring blade or 'sword-wielding mages' favoring magic. Popular in Japanese fantasy through FF series Red Mage and Magic Knight, and Japanese light novels like Magical Warrior Ride. Also established as standard classes in Western RPGs through D&D 5th Edition's Eldritch Knight and Divinity Original Sin's Battle Mage.

Origin

Generally depicted as originating from the fusion of elven swordcraft and human magical scholarship. A hybrid class pioneered by warriors from mage families or mages who underwent warrior training.

Features

  • Can enchant the blade with elements (fire, lightning, frost, etc.)
  • Magic buffs to enhance own physical abilities (Magic Enhancement)
  • Short magic casting time — spells are woven into sword techniques
  • An identity that struggles for recognition from both warriors and mages

Usage

Shines in combat requiring adaptation to multiple elements. The synergy of melee and magic creates an unpredictable fighting style.

Weakness

Weaker magic than a mage, lower HP than a warrior. The difficulty of training in both fields simultaneously.
