Beast Tamer

野獸調鍊師 · Beast Tamer — One who makes ferocious beasts into companions

The beast tamer (野獸調鍊師) is a profession making fierce beasts and magical creatures into companions for combat. More than mere hunters, they're animal psychologists who deeply understand creature nature and psychology to build trust relationships, handling regular animals like lions, tigers, bears, hawks, and wolves to magical beasts like griffins, pegasi, and chimeras. In Western fantasy, D&D's Beast Master Ranger, Diablo's Druid, and Final Fantasy XI's Beastmaster are prominent. Japanese works like Monster Hunter present the hunter-fighting-beasts variant. Eastern tradition frequently depicts Taoist immortals or Three Kingdoms heroes commanding fierce tigers. Often portrayed as solitary figures distanced from human society through their bond with animals.
