The Chao-seon was a small, fast military vessel used by the late Joseon navy. It was designed for agility and speed, making it ideal for pursuing enemy ships and coastal patrols. Oars and sails provided the necessary maneuverability.
Origin
Developed in the late Joseon period to counter pirates and enhance coastal defense, the chase boat was smaller and swifter than the larger standard warships like the Panokseon or Geobukseon. It became a key part of naval patrols and chase missions in the 18th and 19th centuries.
